Surgical Clinic
AMOR Projects places a high priority on the physical health and well being of Peruvian villagers living in poverty. Their goal is to alleviate illness and ease suffering through free medical care and health education, making their services accessible to those in greatest need. AMOR currently provides medical care through regular mobile clinics. During these campaigns, the medical team performs general medicine consults, minor surgeries, and dental extractions. All medical consultations, treatments, and medications are provided free of charge. Such care is made possible because of dedicated sponsors who believe in and support the ministry.
AMOR's core medical team is led by: On-site director and Peruvian physician, Richard Mathews, M.D. and co-director Jenni Goodwin, R.N., NREMT-P. AMOR also works with short-term volunteers in various capacities.
In addition to mobile medical campaigns, plans are underway for a permanent clinic base to provide aditional services. At the base location and with additional equipment and supplies available, AMOR Projects will be enabled to provide patients with more advanced care. AMOR is beginning plans for this surgical clinic base from scratch. As such, much fundraising and supply donation is needed. Everything from basic hospital gowns and sheets to advanced machinery such as EKG machines and ultrasounds are needed. Services will be expanded as finances and supplies allow. The clinic services will involve a scaled charge for patients according to their ability to pay.
When the base clinic is in place, it will function as a hub for continued mobile teams who will branch out into surrounding river and landlocked communities, attending the medical and spiritual needs of village populations. These mobile teams will then have a resource which they can utilize when needed for further diagnosis or treatment of special cases encountered during a campaign. At the projected base location, patients will be able to recieve care in emergencies, hospitalization, major and minor surgeries, OB/GYN care and deliveries, general medicine consults, and dental extractions. Plans are also underway to establish a functioning labortory in order to improve and expand diagnostic abilities.
