A Helping Hand From Everyone
Help Comes From Everyone
When Dr. Matson’s team got here and the campaign started, work for the manual labor team assigned to Km 8 didn’t end. Between Jader, Erick, Ever, Anthony, and Jonathan lots and lots of very important work got done. Even though we had the water tower set up, many days the water didn’t run strong enough to fill it up. What did that mean to the manual labor team? Hauling buckets. Back and forth between the old kitchen and the new kitchen. Filling up water buckets to flush the toilets. Climbing the water tower to fill up the tank so we could take showers at night. Besides hauling buckets, the boys (Anthony and Jonathan) were also in charge of transportation. Whenever there was a patient who needed to go to the lab for a special test or x-rays – they took them. They were also in charge of taking all of the stool samples to the lab every single night and picking up the analysis reports the next day.
The amazing thing about these boys is that even though their primary jobs just consisted of getting water, doing security at night, and transportation they went above and beyond all of that. Anthony worked in the pharmacy, Jonathan translated for one of the Doctors from the States, Jader worked handing out glasses, Ever did triage, and Erick did ear cleanings and assisted in surgeries. And then on Friday, everyone went out into the community for the pick passing out of medicines where over 7,500 doses of Albendazol were passed out house to house.
