Building in the Mud

Time is a funny thing. I remember back in October when Dr. Matson and a few of his helpers came to assess and plan out their big campaign in March. I remember, back then, thinking that March was a long way off. It almost seemed like it would never come. But here we are, with the first week of March already behind us and only one and a half weeks until Dr. Matson’s arrival. The manual labor team had their hands full this week – with wood, hammers, nails, chainsaws, and lots and lots of mud. The construction site contains a plethora of noises. Besides the typical sounds of hammer and nail and chainsaw, there’s also the sound of rubber boots suctioning their way through the barro. It’s definitely impossible to walk in the house without boots. But whatever the weather, the team is outside working hard to finish the project.

Last Sunday the team finished putting up the frames for the outside walls. They also shoveled out a trench around the house. During the week they hammered up the siding and worked on the constructing the frames for the interior walls.

The main objective this week is to pour the cement inside the house and finish the interior walls. The plan is to lay the cement on Tuesday.
